Program:

Program Host Frank Mancuso introduced Matias Jara, our Rotary International high school exchange student from Santiago, Chile.  Matias is from Rotary District 4340 and has been in Brighton since August.  He returns home on July 12th after a West Cost tour with other Rotary youth exchange students.  Matias is the youngest in his family of five and will complete one more semester at his home before heading to the National University of Chile to study industrial engineering.  After a 14-hour plane ride from Chile (11 hours to Dallas, TX, and then 3 hours to Detroit, MI), Matias stayed with the Armistead family and learned about GVSU college life from their oldest son, attended a MSU football game with Colin & Stan Schafer, and visited Disney World with the Armisteads. Matias also visited the House of Representatives with the Terry Gill family, attended the Auto Show in Detroit, toured the Eastern US (Washington, D.C., NYC, and Boston) with the Rotary exchange students, and visited Florida to see his parents and celebrate his birthday.  Matias said that this amazing year can be described by this quote:  “Exchange is not a year in your life, it is a life in a year.”

50/50 drawing:  No one won the jackpot, and Dave Pothier, Mike McManus, and Greg Strouse were unable to locate the Ace of Spades.
