PROGRAM: Final wrap-up before Saturday’s big Dash or Crash at Mt. Brighton
GUESTS: Jerry Spitler, CC grad and son of Scott; Ken Horn, friend of Brian Parsons and Dash or Crash volunteer.
  • Enjoy an ice cream pizza in honor of Brighton Rotary’s 80th anniversary.
  • Sunrise club is looking for two host families for foreign exchange students: both are 17-year-old girls, one from France and one from Spain.
  • President’s Night is Tuesday, June 27, at Mt. Brighton.
  • Kathy Riesterer and Abby Cooper announced that s’mores sale at their open house raised 100 bucks for Rotary Raiders and 170 dollars for VINA.
  • Nancy Johnson thanked club members for responding to the reading challenge, which produced an anonymous 500 dollar donation to our scholarship fund.
  • Mike McManus said Addison Doyle “knocked it out of the park” in a recent talk about youth in Rotary.
  • Tom Zizka said to expect his hand out for 20 bucks a person for the President Night’s 50-50.
Here are some last minute reminders about Dash or Crash:
  • 485 registered so far, compares with 347 first year and 360 last year.
  • Build this afternoon at 3, Friday at 3:30 and Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Need to start take-down immediately after last wave, as Mt. Brighton has a shotgun tournament that afternoon.
  • Wear your “Ask Me” t-shirt from last year if you have it, or a regular Rotary shirt. There are about 70 Ask Me t-shirts left and they will be handed out to new volunteers.
  • Volunteers park across the road at the county lot as before. If you have items, unload then at the main lot and then drive to the volunteer lot.
  • VIP room moved to Ski Hill grill, left side of the open-air entry way.
  • Port-a-johns in same location on way to the cart barn.
  • Guests can and should ride the ski lift down; we don’t want pedestrians on the running course.
  • Staffed first aid room is in the ski patrol building.
  • Lots of things for kids to do: face painting, Howell Nature Center display, two bounce houses, snow cones.
  • 3 new obstacles for the 5 k; 3 for the kids fun run.
  • If you get a cart and/or walkie-talkie, it will be assigned to you and only you should use it.
  • Need help Friday at Mt. Brighton putting stickers over 2016 date on medals; also need help packing bags on Friday.
  • Pre-registration is 3-7 p.m. Friday at Mt. Brighton.
Maribeth Regnier, Peggi Bourke (drawing for Dash or Crash via Tom Zizka) and Bill Anderson failed to find the Ace of Spades.

Strong representation at District conference at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Jane McManus presented a Women in Rotary pin to Melanie Moses, our club’s first female member.
Program featured Karen, a children’s book author who does voice-over work and who was trained and worked in comedy improve. She and her husband, a book illustrator, produce books and they go to schools where they inspire kids to read, write and draw.
