On May 25 our guest speaker Kevin Thorley filled us in on the activities of Williston's Energy Committee, which was formed in 2022 following the 2020 adoption by the Williston Selectboard of a comprehensive energy plan. The mission of the committee is to create a community powered by renewable, locally produced and owned energy, fed by town farms, housed in efficient homes with an environmentally responsible transportation system, all sustained by a vibrant, local economy and social network. The volunteer committee's activities focus on community education, decreasing transportation-related energy demand, taking an active role in drafting town bylaw amendments and incorporating energy efficiency in town capital improvements.
One example of their work involves outreach to energy-burdened households in Williston to offer assistance in making their homes more energy efficient and affordable.
