On a trip a few months back, Barb and Mary LeWinter visited Vienna, Austria, and along the way, they met lawyer and Rotary member, Willibald Plesser. After finding common interests in Rotary, the arts, fundraising, and many other topics, the Barb and Marty invited Willi to be our Nov 21st speaker at our club over ZOOM. It is customary for those traveling to different Rotary clubs to swap flags with the host club, and the host club reciprocates. Above are the 2 clubs flags - each proudly displayed at club meetings.
Willi's topic was fundraising, which all Rotary clubs do to support community service events and charitable grant giving, but Willi's club of 65 members is really really successful, collecting over $100,000 euros ($100k USD) in some years, allowing the Modling Rotary club (founded in 1960) to fund some amazingly large community projects in learning and in health. Willi's comments highlighted some does and don'ts acquired by trial and error in recent years. The club is hugely appreciative of Willi for spending time with our Williston VT club, and now each club has a connection in the larger world for those in each club desiring to visit each other's country.
