On August 3 Williston Fire Department Chief Aaron Collette addressed the club about the technical rescue training and capabilities of his team, as well as recent challenges he and other members of the department faced when deployed throughout the state during the devastating floods in July. WFD personnel undertake training in a variety of specialize rescue areas, including vehicle extrication, ice rescue, rope rescue and swiftwater rescue. Chief Collette is an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team manager and a number of department staff are also Vermont USAR members who can be called upon when needed. We were impressed by the bravery and expertise demonstrated during the difficult situations they faced during the flooding disaster, as well as with the wide variety of training department members do to prepare themselves for whatever situation may arise.
