To mark World Polio Day, October 24 -- and to shine a light on the world's opportunity to wipe out polio entirely -- the Rotary Club of Williston-Richmond placed an educational display in the foyer of the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library in Williston in mid-October. Wild polio is still present in just two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. New and better vaccines continue to be under development, including at the University of Vermont, leading us closer to the day when polio will no longer take lives or leave children crippled for life. Ending polio is one of the signature efforts carried out by Rotary International in partnership with other international organizations, and has been a focus of fundraising by the Williston-Richmond club. Set up by Jude Hersey and Susan Cote, the display will be in place until the end of November. To learn more and to donate, visit www.endpolio.org.  Just $3.00 protects a child from polio for life.
