Our first-ever Bill Skiff Story Slam was named in honor of the founder and first president of the Williston-Richmond Rotary Club, a consummate storyteller. The open-mic event was inspired by NPR's The Moth and asked storytellers to present true personal stories on the theme of Hope. Over 120 guests, including several members of Bill's family, joined us and we raised more than $2000 to support home heating assistance for Vermonters in need. We had hoped Bill would also take part, but he was recovering from a recent surgery. His ears must have been ringing as several people presented fond and funny remembrances of good times with Bill. His daughter Nan shared one of Bill's wonderful stories. Our judges -- Sara Byers, Sarah Hibbeler and Bill Schubart -- scored storytellers on content, organization and presentation. The winners were Paula Cope in 1st place, Chris Stewart in 2nd place and Charlie Magill in 3rd place.
