SPECIAL AWARDS

The Fine Arts Scholarship, $2,500.00, is directed to a student pursuing or planning to pursue either a degree or a non-degree post-secondary program in Visual Arts (such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, or photography) or Performing Arts (such as music, music therapy, dance, or theatre). The Fine Arts Scholarship is in memory of Leon and Betty Laron. Leon was a photographic artistic who emigrated with his wife Betty from Holland to Burlington. He became a member of Rotary Burlington Lakeshore in 1983. He served the Club in many capacities, being its photographer for many years.

The International Studies Scholarship, $2,500.00, is directed to a student pursuing or planning to pursue a degree program in studies with an international focus and/or which leads to an international professional career. Examples include economics, political science, world peace, environmental science, climatology, and law. The International Studies Scholarship is in honour of Kan Nakazawa who lives in Itabashi, Japan, and is an honourary member of Rotary Burlington Lakeshore and a Paul Harris Fellow.

The Educational Studies Award, $2,500.00 is directed to a student pursuing or planning to pursue studies leading to a career as a teacher, educational assistant, or educational administrator. The Educational Studies Award is in memory of Bev Bowra, an elementary school teacher and principal in Burlington for many years. He was an active member of Rotary Burlington Lakeshore. He believed in the value of education and he always encouraged students of all levels to achieve their best.
