Abigail Joyal, President of the GenRotary Club in Central Vermont, joined us as our speaker at our July 13, 2020 meeting.

Abigail was previously a Rotarct member and through that experience learned that Rotary can open many doors. Her favorite thing about Rotary is the people - meeting and collaborating with people across generations.
GenRotary is a new club that was formerly the Central Vermont Rotary Club. The idea is to create opportunities for multi-generational community service. She considers it a "busy bees" club - for those who are committed but can't dedicate time to a weekly meeting. They meet once a month and then have 1-2 service projects per month. Service projects are currently focused on green-up activities due to the pandemic. The monthly meeting consist of speakers, trainings, club business, and the planning of service projects. They would like to add Rotary socials in the future. GenRotary currently has six active members.

She would love to find ways for our club to partner with GenRotary.

Abigail also shared about an exciting service project she has been involved with for the last 7 years. She has travelled to Tanzania in East Africa to help with the Upendo Mmoja. This project has built a residential and vocational training center to house orphaned youth. There, they learn things like carpentry, cooking, sewing and animal husbandry. The services offered continue to grow each year. We learned from Abigail that $400 will sponsor one child for a full year to support their housing, meals and programming.

Abigail shared great energy and passion - she was inspiring!
