Summer Gatherings

We gather together with our families at Grant Camp several times each summer for friendship, food, and fun.
A June Lobster Nite has been a 20 year tradition. It's a semi Pot Luck dinner; either a lobster or a juicy steak is provided. It was held this year on June 22nd.
For the last 7 years, we've held Shrimp Night. On August 3rd, the crew produced a tasty cauldron of shrimp, with ice cream sundaes as dessert. the current specialty was called Frogmore Stew or Low Country Boil. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn are the main ingredients, gently spiced. The side dish was cole slaw. Several types of beverage were available, and once again ice cream sundaes were dished out for dessert. For some reason, Shrimp Nite is generally attended by less than half the club membership plus spouses and children. The event is meant for the enjoyment and friendship of those who attend, making it an exclusive party.
Our final summer gathering is Rib Nite, on September 7th. Rib Nite has always been the best attended of our gatherings, probably due to the tasty barbecued spare ribs, beans, and other "pot luck" side dishes. The night has evolved into a time of awards and recognition. Host families for our exchange students are invited. Rotarian of the Year and Citizen of the Year have been announced in the past.
The goal of each of these parties has been to honor the families of Rotarians for their dedication and support of Rotary's many community and world service activities.
