A team of 5
professionals from Alsace came to town Friday. The club greeted them with dinner
at RUHS, catered by Maybelle.
Saturday, Ty Handy led us on a tour of VTC and threw in a great lunch. The team was then driven to Tut & Linda Doane's sheep farm which is way back up Thresher Road in Braintree.
That evening we took the team to the Mud Season Talent Show. Randy put on a great performance, assisted by Tom Hardy, Charlie McMeekin, and Janeen Reeves. The performances were very entertaining but the humor was not translateable.
Sunday, we met at the driving range because Pierre is a golfer and the others gave hitting balls a try.
Several of the team went for a hike with Brent & Rhonda, but Vincent & Huguette went with Arny & Cil for a tour of the Ben & Jerry factory.
We then adjourned to the Westbrook home for a flatbread party. There were certain consumable liquids and salad and dessert brought by the hosts.
Monday morning, the hosts brought their guests to their vocational choices. Vincent went with Susan Westbrook to her French class & had discourse with them. Katia went with Susan and was introduced to Bill Sugarman, RTCC director, who gave her a tour of RTCC.
Sandee Flood gave Frederic a tour of Clearsource. Pierre, an engineer and railroader, was given a tour of D&K by Rick Goodall. Arny & Cil brought Huguette to East Valley Academy to see how The Clara Martin Center provides school services to that group needing special education. Huguette then talked to Steve Kinney, the supervisory union's Special Education Director. There are many similarities between our philosophy and the French provision of special education and social work, and many differences.
Leo, Arny, and Cil then drove the team to Roxbury to be transferred to their next club, Waitsfield-Warren.
