Nakande Community Update

Dear Rotary Club of Burlington Central,

Your sponsored child and the ever-delighted and grateful Nakande Community, would like to thank you for your enduring and supportive efforts to ensure that sustainable development succeeds in Nakande. We would like to share with you some highlights on accomplishments achieved through your continued support.

Health

¨Immunization has continued to benefit both sponsored and non-sponsored children. 2,780 children were screened for health and immunized against childhood diseases that include measles and polio. Even when we had an outbreak of measles in our community, no life was lost as its effects were mild.

Education

¨To enhance the quality of teaching skills, training was facilitated for all Community School teachers.

¨School books, pens, pencils, chalk and balls were supplied to all the schools in Nakande area.

¨School and user fees were paid for all sponsored children attending school.

¨We managed to send 2 more children for higher education. One for Electrical Engineering and the other for Developmental Studies.

Spiritual and Leadership Development

¨200 children participated in a Provincial Youth Scripture Union workshop. This is in an effort to promote acceptable morals through behavioral change and spiritual growth.

¨Our community has taken interest in grooming tomorrow's leaders. A junior Program Management Committee, comprising elected sponsored children, was trained in leadership skills and worked alongside the senior committee. This will ensure sustainability of the community's development in years to come.

The Nakande community will never be the same. We are very grateful for your continued support. May the Lord's favour be yours forever.

Yours sincerely,

Mwangala Namenda
