Rotary District 5040 Conference was recently held at the River Rock Casino Resort. The event was held between April 25 to April 27 and brought together District Governor Drew Antrobus (RC Richmond Sunset) and the 48 clubs in British Columbia that belong to the District. The conference invited various prominent speakers to talk about their advocacies, projects and personal trials. Rotary International sent Dr. Nischal Pandey of India as the Representative of RI President Stephanie Urchick. As with any district conference there was a House of Friendship, which featured many ongoing district projects. As the Rotary them for the year if The Magic of Rotary, there was even a mentalist who showcased his talents.
The Rotary Club of Vancouver-Mountainview played a prominent role during the conference. PP Matt Caparas was the Conference Chair and PP Rovic Canono was the co-host for the event. President Ernie Ong, IPP Bert Parungao and new Rotarian Theresa Meier were present throughout the conference as well. RCVM and PP Dr. Gloria Samosa (Glosadental Centre) were Silver Sponsors, while Atty. Melissa Remulla-Briones (Northam Law), Evelyn Lopez (Realtor), Dennese Usison (Element by Westin), Binky Cruz (Admiral Insurance) and PP Bert Parungao (T1 Mobile Tax Services) were Bronze Sponsors. Rotaract HOPE 604 President Christine de Castro (Follow the Sun Technologies) was also a Bronze Sponsor.
Towards the end of the conference, DG Drew passed the Governor’s Pin to District Governor Elect, Jan Gisborne (RC Powell River). DGE Jan will be installed in Powell River on June 14. Her year as District Governor will begin on July 1, 2025, the first day of the new Rotary year.
