As an educator Dorean worked as a music teacher with the Peel Board of Education for 26 years, serving a number of years as a consultant to the board's music program.

As a performer, Dorean has appeared with such notables as Britain's David Whitfield, America's Gordon MacRae and Henny Youngman and Canada's Gene McLelland and Alan Thicke. She has also appeared as a soloist in Germany and the United States. 

She has been a concert artist for Columbia Artists' Community Concert Series in Ontario and the Maritimes and she was the first single act to appear at Harbourfront Studio Theatre with her one-woman show Solitaire.  Dorean has played countless leading roles in musicals, comedies and dramas in and around the Toronto area.

As a musical director, Dorean has worked with Toronto's Richard Greenblat (Two Pianos, Four Hands) with the Penguin Theatre Company in Ottawa. She was musical/artistic director for the official opening of Brampton's Heritage Theatre and has made several appearances there since.

Her many awards include best song for the Canadian film Song of Chinguacousy, Theatre Ontario's best actress for her role as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha and the Ed Mirvish award for musical direction of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Sorcerer.

Dorean was Brampton's Woman of Distinction in 1986 for her contribution to culture in the city. She is the director of music at St. Bartholomew's United Church.
