Join the bone marrow registry

 
Barry introduced Glenn Van Zeumeren whom he has known for many years.

Glenn is a Brampton resident is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a BA in commerce. Running has always been a part of his life. He had an infection in his leg, was in the hospital for a month and was diagnosed with MDS, a form of leukemia.

Glenn was given one to two years to live and the only way to survive is to have a bone marrow transplant. He started a race to get a match and to raise awareness for the Canadian Bone Marrow Stem cell Registry. To be on the registry you must be between the ages of 17 to 50 years. It’s a simple procedure to register, just get on the website www.onematch.ca, fill out a form on line and once submitted, your name is on the international registry for a stem cell transplant.

Glenn has been waiting for 8 months and in May, they found a match. Transplant date is set for August 9/11. There is a bit of a journey ahead for Glenn. All Rotary members who qualify were encouraged to get on the registry.
