Disrtict Conference a success!
Nearly 300 delegates, Rotarians and Youth, attended the 7080 District Conference in Brampton on the weekend. Fellowship, dinner and theatre kicked off the two-day event, followed by a full-day discussion about the future of Rotary clubs in District 7080.
The Rise and Fall of Rotary Clubs, subtitled Exploring the Stages of Club Success and Failure, stimulated lots of discussion throughtout the day. Rotarian Jack Tacoma, past president of the Guelph Trillium Club, and a charter member of two clubs set the stage with a keynote address about the evolution of Rotary Clubs.
He talked about the four essential elements in every Rotary Club - vision, relationships, projects and management. In breakout sessions, defined by years of service, delegates explored these concepts as it related to their own clubs. During the afternoon session delegates looked at case studies and further discussed the four elements.
Most delegates identified that "vision" was the missing ingredient in their clubs. They also recognized that, in many cases, there was a strong foundation of relationships, projects and management, on which to reclaim a vision for the future.
Throughout the day delegates were entertained by the Red Spirit Singers and the Ault Sisters. A full-day partner program engaged spouses.
Hon. William Davis delivered the keynote address at lunch, talking about service to community and its growing importance. Dr. Jean Clinton closed out the day with a stimulating address on engaging youth at an early age.
