Celebrating Parkholme School

John Digby introduced John, Val, Linda and DeJohn all from Parkholme
School. John spoke about the school and it's vision. Parkhome School has
been around from the early 60's. They focus on students 14-18 yrs. old
and once they turn 19, they are transitioned to another program where
they work on skills to transition to adult life and graduate into the
community. The Brampton Transit Service work with students in developing
their skills and the students use the transit to get around the
community.
There are a number of companies that provide contract work for the students at Parkholme; the students also do a car wash and a laundry program that are used as an in-school experience. This provides opportunities for students to work as a team. The money goes back into the work experience program.
Their Mission:
As a school community, they recognize and embrace individual differences. By creating a safe, respectful and caring environment, they provide opportunities to learn with dignity. Accomplishing this will build a strong foundation to empower students to move towards independence.
Their vision:
Students, staff, parents and community supporters will jointly foster a culture of learning that will facilitate a successful transition for students into adulthood.

John thanked The Rotary Club for their support over the years and will present to the Club a gift of Parkholme yearbook when it's ready.
Jim Inglis thanked the speakers for their thoughtful and interesting presentation, it's a great program and the staff are vibrant and committed to their students.
