Brampton Special Olympics

Carole Lewis and Wendy Best of the Brampton Special Olympics were invited to speak at the Rotary Club of Brampton. Carole has been with Brampton Special Olympics for 20 years, participating in coaching, club development and club manager for basketball and soccer. Wendy has been with them for 13 years in Technical Support.
What is Special Olympics? The Special Olympics provide year-round sports and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics promotes opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and develop skills and friendship with families.
The goal at Brampton Special Olympics is to strive to build self- confidence and to provide a venue where athletes can learn new skills and make friendships. Friendships last a life time for them. They have an annual dance and attend special sports events such as Brampton Beast. Most of the participants at BSO are on fixed income and live independently. BSO do not receive funding from any affiliated companies. They are totally responsible for raising funds within the community. Without these fundraisers, they wouldn’t be able to do what they do.
Brampton Special Olympics need uniforms and transportation. They also need support in fundraising, baseball bats, basket balls etc. They now have six soccer teams and five basketball teams.
In July 2017 the games will be coming to Brampton. They need financial and volunteer help. Please contact Brampton Special Olympics to donate and/or volunteer.
