Protecting those Who Protect Us:
Gary Rubie, who served as a member of Peel Regional Police for 33 years working in special services, undercover and investigative, retired in 2017, spoke to the Brampton Rotary Club on “Badge of Life Canada”.
Gary’s mission is to raise the profile of “Badge of Life Canada” as the voice of those police and correctional personnel across Canada who struggle in silence regarding operational stress injuries, post-traumatic stress and suicide prevention.
These police officers provide “service above self” through their work.
Gary told his story tied with the need to support police and corrections personnel who are dealing with psychological injuries diagnosed from their service, through his own personal journey tied with post traumatic growth.
Gary has been recognized from the public with countless letters of appreciation, police and received eight awards including: Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Ontario Provincial Award, Special Event Award of Excellence, Police Exemplary Service Medal, Police Service Board Awards, etc.
Gary was the first and only Peel Police Officer to have received a full disability pension from the W.S.I.B for job related post-traumatic stress, which almost cost him his life.
