Monday January 5th, 2026 was our first day back after the Holiday Break and we had a 'double feature' - two guest speakers from the community during one meeting.
Renae Addis, Director of Development for ErinOak Kids, gave her talk to the club. She provided an update on services to children and their families.
Then, we had a presentation from Shane Joseph, CEO of Roots Community Services Inc. Vice President Rita Gayle indicated that Roots will be the donation recipient for proceeds from our Black History Month Celebration.
Past President Badar delivered a Vocational Service Talk to the club on January 12th, 2026. He discussed Chambers of Commerce and the work he has done to build connections that spark economic development.
It was a great educational talk. He fielded many questions after his presentation.
Members of Rotary Club of Brampton’s International Service committee have voted in favour of supporting a global grant project being spearheaded by our friends in Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton in partnership with Rotary Club of Ternopil City in Ukraine to help Ukrainians gain access to 3D printed prosthetics.
The need for prosthetics in Ukraine is enormous. Over 100,000 children, civilians and soldiers have lost limbs in the war, mostly lower limbs. And despite extensive demining, landmines—more than 2 million at last count—will continue to injure Ukrainians for decades.3D-printed sockets take 8 hours to print. Plaster cast prostheses take weeks to dry, manufacture, trim and fit. With 3D printing, more amputees can be served and rehabilitated much sooner. Patients can regain their lives, dignity, and livelihoods. Children can return to school and re-engage with society.
This project will have a profound impact on the lives and livelihoods of Ukrainians.
The Rotary Club of Brampton celebrated the life and legacy of Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns. Those in attendance certainly felt connected to Scotland and its unique creative and innovative spirit during the piping in of the haggis to the table and the Address to the Haggis, delivered by Pipe Major Jeremy Federico. We certainly enjoyed haggis and the entire traditional meal, thanks to our wonderful caterer, Blair's Catering. Many club members and Uncle Stu Chandler shared the poetry of Robbie Burns by giving readings.
In addition, Past President Badar presented Jake Hodoh with a Paul Harris Fellow Plus One award. Jake received his Sapphire Paul Harris pin in recognition of his contribution towards the Foundation over the years.
Overall, it was a very successful lunch recognizing Scottish heritage in the community.
Rotary Club of Brampton presented a $7,500 cheque to Regeneration Outreach Community on January 22, 2026. A number of club members are dedicated volunteers with Regeneration. That day was also an opportunity with InspiHer Network with Brampton Board of Trade to volunteer side by side at Regeneration to support local women and their families and amplify collective impact.
Members of Rotary Club of Brampton's Emergency Committee have voted in support of releasing this year’s Emergency Relief funds to ShelterBox.
Hurricane Melissa Response (Late 2025): Following Hurricane Melissa, ShelterBox deployed aid from pre-positioned warehouses in Barbados and Panama to deliver emergency shelter and supplies quickly.
Aid Provided: Kits included family tents, tools, cooking equipment, water filtration, blankets, and solar lights, with tarpaulins and rope for quick repairs.
Partnerships: They collaborated with local organizations like Rotary International and Food for the Poor to distribute aid and reach remote areas.
Reach: The response aimed to support up to 10,000 people, reaching hard-to-reach mountainous communities in Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, and St. Elizabeth.
The Rotary Club of Brampton is pleased to announce the three new Board of Directors for the July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028 term. Our new Directors who will be joining the Board are Rose Chojnacki, Luisa Santos-Mocon and Deboraha Robinson. They gave great speeches to the club about their reasons for running for a Board position and were acclaimed at the January 26th, 2026 business meeting.
