Youth Update

OFSSAA Wrestling
On Friday March 6th the Powerade Centre was full of energetic and talented competitors in the OFSSAA Wrestling championships, along with parents, teachers, coaches and other supporters. It was obviously a highly contested event with secondary school students from across the Province competing in various weight classes. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Brampton for being one of the sponsors of this event - the enthusiasm was genuine and there are definitely skilled athletec in training now for future international competitions - perhaps even the Olympics.

Adventure in Citizenship
Andrea Dracaglia, a 17 year old grade 12 student from Mayfield SS will be sponsored by our club to attend the Adenture in Citizenship program coordinated by the Rotary Club of Ottaw in May.. When interviewed by Mari-Anne Tate, Andrea was articlulate and enthusiastic. She is studying intrnational law and World Politics this year so the program in Ottawa will bring this alive for her.
RYLA 2009
Kristen Wheeler, a first year student at McGill Univeristy will be one of two students to attend the District 7080 RYLA program in Orangeville. She has a resume filled with volunteer activities already so this program will provide an opportunity for her to develop her skills further. Our club is still seeking a second candidate at this time.
INTERNATIONAL RYLA
Two RYLArians from the 2008 program will be attending the International RYLA program in Birmingham in June 2009. Gillian Lomax and Joy Umoafia, both residents of Brampton, will attend through District 7080 sponsorship.
We will look forward to having these students provide feedback later this year after they have attended the programs.
