Badar introduced Dr. Naveed Mohammad, Executive Vice-President, Quality, Medical and Academic Affairs. He thanked the Club for its support of the William Osler Health System which operates at 3 locations – Brampton Civic, Peel Memorial and Etobicoke General Hospitals.
Annually some 300,000 emergency visits take place at the three hospitals with 200 to 400 per day at each location. Annually Osler receives over 17000 outpatients, performs 70000 surgeries, assists 7800 births, performs 46000 diagnostic tests and has 5500 outpatient discharges. It is known for its quality of excellence as to wait times connected with care.
Dr. Mohammad mentioned the new endovascular program which reduces hospital care time and scope of surgical intervention in cases of certain aneurisms. Osler staff is trained to be aware of cultural issues for patients and their families in times of illness under treatment at its hospitals. Dr. Mohammad then briefly introduced the Osler’s Global Health Program, Philanthropy and Community Education/Outreach which carries on charity funded programs to help build leaders within systems of partnerships with other health centers to develop patient follow up procedures.
Babita Sandhu and Maria DeSousa each spoke on the global health missions of Child Life (CL) Foundation and Sina Health Education Welfare Trust. Regrettably time ran out for additional speakers from Osler. Dr. Mohammad answered a number of questions on some current aspects of the operations of the Osler system.
