Willard provided some tips on distinguishing a counterfeit coin from a genuine one. He also discussed how coins can be altered and how much they can be worth. Unfortunately in this business, you have to be careful or you can lose a lot if you do not learn quickly and detect the fake coins. Willard has learned this lesson the hard way – and he and his partners keep some of these coins as gentle reminders.
For any aspiring coin collectors, Willard's advice was to collect coins that were made the year your Dad was born – and anything before that year. Another tip is to buy the opposite of the bulk coins that the Canadian Mint is producing. Coins that are available in abundance are not worth anything compared to those coins that are rare.
