Shannon Doherty of the Wellspring Ching. Foundation and Larry Zacher spoke to Rotary members about this wonderful cancer facility in Brampton that was opened in March 2008. Shannon thanked Rotary for inviting them to talk about Wellspring. Wellspring is a special place and she has been working there for 1-1/2 yrs. A member will be cancer patient or caregiver. It’s a peaceful place where people feel energy, like a big hug. Anyone who comes to Wellspring will experience a confidential journey. It’s located at 5 Inspiration Way, Brampton (Father Tobin and Torbram). Anyone can drop in and tour Monday to Friday 9:00 to 5 p.m.There are elevators, on site childcare and transportation service. Each program is designed to enhance the cancer patient’s life.
Despite the emotional and physical demands of cancer, everyone has the capacity to influence how they feel, make decisions, and deal with day-to-day matters. Improved coping can help cancer patients and their loved ones feel better and move forward.

Wellspring offers a variety of coping skills programs that teach practical ways that you can help yourself, programs such as Relaxation and Visualization, Yoga, Meditation, Tai chi, QI Gong (Chinese principles of energy) and Expressive Programs, including art therapy, music therapy, journaling, quilting.

Shannon thanked the Rotary for supporting their resource center. Funding for Wellspring comes from the foundation and companies in the community. No funding is received from the Government. The facilities are free of charge. There are 775 registered members, 70% increase in usage over a year ago. For more information, visit the site at wellspringbrampton.com

Larry showed a video of people talking about what Wellspring mean to them. It’s a place that is genuine, and staff and volunteers are there to extend their arms and sincerely welcome people who are going through any type of challenges. There is a calm, kindness and serenity there and people truly understand what a cancer patient is going through. Wellspring gives people the opportunity to have a second chance, a warm and inviting home and a true place of healing.
