Volunteers needed for Rib n Roll
Rib 'n' Roll at Gage Park on Saturday May 28th is fast approaching and Chairman Rob van Kessel is looking for volunteers to help with the setup on Friday night and throughout the event on Saturday.
The setup time is 6 p.m. Friday May 27 at Gage Park. The event begins at 12 noon and runs until 8 p.m. on Saturday. If you can help please indicate so to Rob or one of the committee members.
Last year Rotary Rib 'n' Roll raised $37,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"We had no idea what to expect, but we had a great day of weather and a huge crowd hungry for ribs. We ran out of supplies last year, but this year we will be ready and we expect an even bigger crowd," says Rob.
This year there are six participating ribbers including Casey's Bar and Grill, Jake's Boathouse, Louisiana Seafood, Oyster Bar and Grill, Montana's Cookhouse and Outback Steakhouse and Turtle Jack's. They will be selling ribs from noon to 8 p.m.
The afternoon and early evening will include three live bands The Mark Ekins Band, Yakudo Traditional Japanese Drum Band and The Beetroots, playing from 12:30 p.m. through to 8 p.m.
There will also be events for children, including face-painting, inflatable jumping toys and two magic shows. And there will be great prizes too.
"We wanted to keep this a family day and with 'blading, a ribfest and live music. And we want to have things for kids to do," van Kessel says.
Rib n Roll expands on the 8th annual Blade-a-thon to create an even bigger fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society. Blade-a-thon raised $15,000 in 2003. Last year Rib n Roll raised $37,000 for the Cancer Society.
