Tyler Small on Movember
Posted by Rita Gayle
Our speaker, Tyler Small, is in charge of Community Development, Movember. Tyler gave us a brief history of how Movember started. In 2003, two mates from Melbourne, Australia were having a quiet beer when their conversation turned to recurring fashion trends. They questioned where the Mo had gone and joked about bringing it back. The two friends decided to talk mates into growing a Mo. Inspired by a friend’s mother who was fundraising for breast cancer; they decided to make the campaign about men’s health and prostate cancer. They designed rules and guidelines for Movember and agreed to charge ten dollars to grow a Mo. They designed the first Movember logo and sent around an email titled Are you man enough to be my man? They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge. In 2012 $146.6 mill was raised and the journey continues. Canada has embraced the moustache. The vision is to have ever lasting impact on men’s health; the focus is on men’s mental health, prostate cancer and testicle cancer.
You guys are making a great difference by growing your moustache! Keep up the great work!
