David Tsubouchi was a last minute replacement as speaker last week and just days before the election he was still confident about Conservative chances.
Tsubouchi, minister of culture and chair of management board, lost his seat in the Liberal sweep of the province just three days after he spoke to the club.
His seat was expected to be safe.

He said the Conservative record of reduced taxes, job creation and five consecutive balanced budgets was a message that didn't get out to the electorate.
"The Liberal campaign is based on our platform," he told members. Tsubouchi said the Liberals would have difficulty delivering their promises. "They promise to keep health care spending to 3.2% and it was all we could do to keep it at 7%."
And on education he said the promise to reduce class sizes to 20 for the first three grades would cost Ontario taxpayers $50 million more. Only time will tell whether Mr. Tsubouchi was right.
