Tom Regher, a lifelong Brampton resident, has made a long trip back from a life of alcoholism, drug addiction and homelessness.

He  is clean , sober and in recovery . He helps explain to others, including Health Care providers, through workshops and seminars how people fall into such lifestyles and how to assist them in making the journey back.

Tom recounted how he experienced his mother's  recurrent hospitalizations for mental breakdowns as a child . He responded by pushing his friends away and withdrawing into a world wher he dulled the pain with alcohol and drugs.  He somehow succeeded in getting himself educated and holding responsible jobs doing sought-after work for high-level development companies.

But his life became  increasingly out-of-control and unmanageable.(You know you're in trouble when your coke dealer thinks you're weird.)

Fortunately he had friends who were prepared to talk to him , instead of just walking away, to tell him they loved him and to help him.  These people saved his life.

Now Tom repays the favour by sharing what he has learned and demonstrating what can be done with friends and determination.

Bob Cranch thanked Tom for his compelling and inspirational talk to our club.
