The Wheelchair Project

John introduced our speaker: Bob Pesant.
Bob (assisted by Nancy & Gord from the Heart Lake club) spoke on the Wheelchair Project in general and the recent distribution project in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Our club was one of the sponsors and Nancy presented President Steve with a certificate of appreciation from the Mexican recipient clubs. Bob described the program in general, and some of the details of the distribution at a stadium and private homes on the trip.
He noted that the capital cost of the chairs to the club/foundation was $110, with the remaining costs covered by various matching grants.
Gord, described that it didn't take much mechanically to add to the chair as received from the manufacturer to 'make it work', but that the real thing that made the chair work was to 'put a person in the chair', and that's the focus of the program's efforts.
