The ribs are cookin'

Things are heating up for Rotary Rib n' Roll May 29 at Gage Park. It's an action-packed day with rollerblading and cycling in the park, some of Brampton's best ribs and beer and music all afternoon. For details CLICK HERE
Rotary Rib 'n' Roll expands on the 7th annual Blade-a-thon to create an even bigger fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"Blade-a-thon allowed us to raise $15,000 last year for the Cancer Society, but we are hoping this new event will allow us to raise even more money," says event chairman Rob van Kessel.
Blade-a-thon has been operating for six years out of Gage Park. Fundraising relies on participants raising pledges and 'blading, cycling or skateboarding through Brampton's park system. Music and a barbecue with a beer tent have all been part of the event in the past.
"Lots of Rotary clubs are hosting successful Ribfests and we saw this as a great opportunity to combine these events," says van Kessel. "Four local restaurants will prepare ribs in the park on May 29 and it's going to be a great event."
The four restaurants are Jake's Boathouse, Louisiana Seafood, Oyster Bar and Grill, Montana's Cookhouse and Outback Steakhouse. They will be selling ribs from noon to 8 p.m.
The afternoon and early evening will include three live bands - Bad Weather, The Beetroots and members of the Jazz Mechanics.
There will also be events for children, including face-painting, magic, clowns, inflatable jumping toys and special celebrity guests. And there will be great prizes too.
"We wanted to keep this a family day and with blading and cycling, a ribfest and live music, we believe there will be lots of activity for the whole family."
Pledge sheets for the blading/cycling/skateboarding portion of the event are available by calling the Cancer Society at 905 451 4460.
