The President's Plan
President Steve outlined his plan for the coming Rotary year calling it "a time of transition."
The uncertainty around Rutherford bingo and lost revenues forced last year's board to reassess "our ability to provide the level of support and programming that had become second nature to this club."
He praised Past President Sheila and her board of directors for the "incredible job" they did managing through this crisis. "In particular I want to recognize the stellar work of the Rutherford Board, led by Tim Hogenbirk, and in particular President-elect Jim Inglis, Treasurer Glenn Williams and Bob Cranch for the many hours they have invested in protecting our club's interest."
It's premature to assess the new rules and whether they will have a positive impact, but President Steve said we have made a commitment to the Brampton Community Service Foundation to give it our best effort to rebuild this business. He said club members will be asked to contribute their expertise in business and marketing to inject some new life in the bingo venture.
"We feel we need to give it our best shot, while being vigilant to protect the future of our club and we will be calling on members to help in this process."
The uncertainty around bingo forced the club into positive action, initiating a process to develop a three year strategic plan - a plan that engages the president, president-elect and vice-president in the succession chain.
"It isn't complete, but it provided enough fodder at this point to establish some broad planning guidelines for my year as President."
President Steve says his plan this year centers around five distinct areas -Membership, Public Relations, Club administration, Community Service and World Service and Foundation.
Specific goals this year include
- Complete 3 year strategic plan
- Grow net membership by five and involve more members as sponsors
- Engage all members and families in fun, fellowship and Rotary work
- Build social capital and re-brand the club
- Improve club communications
- Secure our assets and our future
- Train our future leaders
- Build on successful community service events to engage members and provide value for our community
- Maximize our potential and set annual goal to support RI's international work. Raise awareness about Foundation and improve individual contributions.
"To meet these objectives and to provide the focus we require around the five areas identified, we have developed a simplified club structure that is specifically aligned to meet our goals this year."

Directors will be contacting committee chairs and members to populate the club structure over the next few weeks.
President Steve concluded by saying, "our Rotary Club that has had a significant impact on our community. Smart people, with great ideas, have established an unparalled level of community service. There is no doubt in my mind that The Rotary Club of Brampton is the premier service organization in our city and that we will continue to build on that legacy in years to come. I am confident that we have a solid leadership team and with their guidance we will start a period of transition for our club."
