The Leprosy Mission
Dittie introduced Gisele Gedeon from The Leprosy Mission Canada. Leprosy has been around for over 120 years.
What is Leprosy? Leprosy is a disease caused by bacteria. The bacterium affects the body’s nervous system, concentrating on the cooler parts of the body. Affected areas are the skin, eyes and muscles in the hands and feet. If not attended to quickly, could cause deformity. As the disease progresses, the symptoms only get worse, numbness in hands and feet make the patient vulnerable to cuts and infections that cant be felt, stiffened muscles, clawed hands, loss of the blinking reflex leads to total blindness and in some cases amputation of fingers, an arm or leg is necessary.
Leprosy is a communicable disease and is contagious. A cure has been found since 1982 and since the cure, 15 million people have received the multi drug therapy. The cure consists of three tablets taken at the same time and the cost is $350. People who receive the cure right away can live their lives as if nothing happened. This is modern day miracle!
