September is New Generations month

In the Rotary calendar, September is devoted to the New Generations.
This is the fifth avenue of service for Rotarians, a way to achieve
Service Above Self, through four youth initiatives: Interact, Rotaract,
International Youth Exchange and RYLA. The Rotary Club of Brampton is
involved in all four. Here are some highlights:
Interact – a club for high school students (grades 9-12 for RC Brampton) to learn about Rotary, the community and the world. Each club must complete one community and one international project in the program year. Currently there are two schools sponsoring clubs: Central Peel SS and St. Augustine Catholic SS. One new program is planned for Brampton Christian School, and hopefully another can be established during the year at other high schools within our responsibility (Mayfield, North Park or Fletcher’s Meadow). Interactors also attend District events including conferences and training events. Club liaison is Norm Bindon. Volunteers needed to work directly with the clubs as advisors.
Rotaract – our club has obtained its charter in June and will hold its Inauguration Event on Sunday October 3. Please come to this event to show your personal support. This club of young professionals and post secondary students are18-30 years of age. Members participated in Rotary events such as Rib’n Roll, Days of Giving and the Mississauga Ribfest. International Youth Exchange is an opportunity for 17 year olds students to live in another country for one year. Currently we have two outbound students: Kalgi Amin (Austria) and Andrew Terry (Germany). Our inbound student is arriving from Japan on September 4 and will attend North Park SS. His first host mom is Hema Amin. We welcome host families for a 3 month, week or weekend. It is a very interesting way to get to know another culture and enjoy youthful company. Club liaison is John Lomax.
RYLA is a leadership training program for post-secondary students run by our District 7080. Candidates apply to our club for sponsorship to the 6 day program held in Orangeville the first week of May. Many RYLArians continue to become Rotoracters and leaders in their own communities. Club liaison is Joan Whelan.
RC Brampton also is involved in other youth activities, including the RC Ottawa’s “Rotary Adventure in Citizenship” program. One candidate joins a tour of Ottawa and the parliamentary system. Usually the candidate is in grade 11 or 12 political science programs or similar area of study. Club liaison is Carole Berry.
Our club is committed to children and youth. Through New Generations involvement of teenagers and young adults rejuvenates and spreads our values. Thank you to the club for the financial support of the above programs – and your personal involvement with these junior members of the Rotary Family. Volunteers make the program enriched and enriching.
