Chris-Beth Cowie and Ryan Knight – RYLA
 
Chris-Beth and Ryan are a team that co-ordinate RYLA. They are both from Brampton and they have done so much for the community.
If you are a parent, there are two things that keep you up at night:
  1. Paying the bills; will your children have a safe place to sleep at night
  2. Your child will not be a failure
Rotary can be the most viable organization to keep youths engaged and on the right path. This can be done by connecting with the best youth leadership and entrepreneurial programs in the community.
 
The Challenge
Help the youths, especially black youths, find employment. What can we add to a youth who is having trouble finding a job? knighthood Academy is geared toward youths in Brampton to help them make a positive difference in the community. It doesn’t matter what people say, there are opportunities in our community to make a difference. Rotary is known for service above self and that’s really what Chris-Beth and Ryan are doing in guiding these youths to be great citizens of Brampton.
Knighthood Academy was recently funded to work with organizations and youths to steer them in a direction to feed their own family and become great citizens.
 
Next Steps
Youths get involved in Rotary; Rotary provide branded swag; Rotarian in Advisory role; mentorship; program sponsorship.
Chris-Beth and Ryan would like to change the mindset of the youths and have them think at all times that they can be whatever they choose to be and so much more.
