ROTARY’S FIRST ANNUAL CHILDREN’S PICNIC

Sunday August 18 was a beautiful summer day.  Rotary Glen was the perfect location.  So Rotarians and Rotaracters joined together for a picnic and BBQ, inviting 60 children and their famiiles from Kerry’s Place (Autism Services) and Easter Seals. 

 

Cst. Rehan Hahn of Peel Regional Police brought along a spanking new police cruiser.  Shane Coon and crew from Station 204 Brampton Fire Department drove over with a huge ladder fire truck.  What fun the children had inspecting this equipment and even sitting inside both vehicles. 

 

Rotaracters and Rotarians offered face painting, games and a hoola hoop contest to get things underway.  A super BBQ was finished with ice cream bars and loot bags from McDonalds.   Lots of photos were taken.

 

Families expressed their pleasure for this rare break from routines – and a chance to be with their families in a caring and enjoyable environment.

Thanks to the leadership of Liane Fernandes and Wendell Brown and the time and caring from so many Rotarians who took part.  Watch out for a second annual event next summer.
