Welcome to Chris-Beth Cowie and Melissa Kerman. Melissa gave a brief update on Rotaract. Rotaract is a service, leadership and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18-30. Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Rotaract Brampton has been a club since 2010. They have 20 members and they meet bi-weekly every third Wednesday of the month. The members are highly involved in volunteerism and have partaken in different events such as tree planting and picnics for autistic kids.

Chris-Beth talked about her international project. She has a degree in International Development and experience in a wide variety of youth leadership and outreach roles. She has been to Uganda while working with Tin Roof Global. At Tin Roof, they have a passion for water and believe water is precious. They help to provide water locally in Uganda and work with young students bringing water education and water conservation tips. In Uganda it’s common that girls and women walk up to 3 km one way for water source. Rain water harvesting system cost about $5000 to construct. They experience about 8 months of rain fall. The entire community gain access to good water source. Health improves and enrollment in schools goes up.

The Rotaract Club is hoping to host a water walk in Brampton to help the people in Uganda. People will come with buckets of water to experience what it is like in a developing country. They are looking at sometime in May at Ching. Park and the goal is to raise $5000. Pledge forms will be provided.
