Stephen Mocon – Rotary Australia

Stephen Mocon was given an awesome opportunity, through Rotaract, to visit Australia last year. He went on a round trip around the world and met different Rotaract clubs and also Rotary Clubs. Their Rotaract Club is like a boot camp that is run by Rotary and quite different from ours here. He went to Newcastle and talked with the Rotaract club there. He also talked with the Rotary Club who explained that their fundraising is through BBQ’s. He went to the Zoo, the Rain Forest and Byron’s Bay.

Stephen spent different times with different Rotaractors who talked about the way they raise funds, mostly through parties and again, BBQ’s. They usually make $5,000 to $10,000 from a BBQ. Stephen, with others, participated in the Rotaract amazing race which was a lot of fun.

What did Stephen get out of it? He learned that Rotaract flourishes when it’s created, you get to mingle with Rotaract clubs, especially in the amazing race. No two Rotary Clubs are the same, both members and clubs are diverse.

Rotary needs to be more involved in Rotaract; the members need guidance, they need to know how to get things done.
