Rod Rice  moved to Brampton in 1964 at the age of 13; he joined Rice Construction in 1974. Rod gave a brief history of Rice Construction. In 1950 three aggressive young brothers started building houses in the Downsview area. They had the idea to take a look at land in Brampton and a year later they were building houses. In those days, houses were sold for $12,000. They made an impression in Brampton in the 50’s and 60’s and took a visionary approach in putting communities together.
In those days, it was a challenge to be able to provide a wide variety of housing styles. With every challenge come opportunities. They realized it was necessary to give back to the community and their commitment in community involvement. The family moved to Brampton in 1964 and made a commitment then to serve in the community. They are committed to keep the legacy of their parents going. The land developers understand they are building a community and the history of a caring community in Brampton lives on and the Rice family is happy to be a part of it.

Gayle thanked Rod for a very interesting and informative speech and for all the wonderful things the Rice family has done for the City of Brampton.
