Rib 'n' Roll rocks Gage Park

Thousands turned out over the day to enjoy Rotary Rib 'n' Roll in Gage Park on Saturday. The turnout exceeded the expectations of the organizing committee. See PHOTOS
The action at the five ribbers - Jake's Boathouse, Louisianna's Seafood Oyster Bar and Grill, Montana's Cookhouse, Outback Steakhouse and Turtle Jack's Grill House - was steady all day but peaked at the supper hour.
This new event combined Blade-a-thon, now in its seventh year, with a ribfest, music and activities for children.
"We had considerable help from the weather, but it was a great day and overall all the participants are really pleased with the results," says committee chairman Rob van Kessel.
Rob thanked all the Rotarians who helped out during the day.
"We couldn't have pulled this off with support from our club. Events like this make you proud to be a Rotarian."
Rob also thanked our sponsors- Investors Group. Lawrences, Hillier and Hillier, Tim Hortons. Justine Blainey Wellness Centre, the City of Brampton, MarketingKit.ca, RBC Investments, Cool Beer, Canadian Auto Workers, RBC Investments, Goodison Insurance, Cool Beer, Labatt's Beer, Frito Lay, Winsor Interiors, Jerome Dawson DJ Services, Canadian Tire, Colony Ford, Labatt's Beer and GMF Transport.

While the accounting is not complete, Rob says we will surpass last year's Blade-a-thon event by a considerable margin. Net proceeds got to the Canadian Cancer Society.
"Based on this year's event, we now know that Rib 'n' Roll has great promise for future years. It can only get bigger and better," says Rob.
