Regeneration reaches out

Rod Rice, representing the Regeneration Outreach Committee, says his organization strives to provide the working poor with sustenance, dignity and spiritual growth.

The organization provides food and clothing and meeting space so social agencies can work with their clients. Currently the group is providing breakfasts to between 40 and 60 people six days a week out of Grace United Church. Last year's budget was $15,000 but this year Rod says they will spend $78,000.
He says there is a gap developing in downtown Brampton, made more difficult by the relocation of Knight's Table. We want to bring Rotary Clubs, social service agencies and churches together to see how we can do it right, to fulfill this growing need.
One of the group's problems is finding suitable locations to provide these services.
"The largest group of these people have mental challenges. They are in their 50s and can't find work - normal people who for whatever reason have fallen on bad times," says Rod.
