Denis Stephenson
Denis is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Brampton. He is also a Paul Harris award winner. Denis is the oldest and most experienced, both oldest in the club and age. Denis was born in London, Ontario and raised in Hamilton. He was educated at Toronto University and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer. He met his wife in Hamilton and they will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary which is the reason they have recently completed a trip of a lifetime to Hawaii and other countries.
Denis has three children all middle age now, the oldest son lives in Midland. His daughter Lisa, a former member of The Rotary Club of Brampton is a trainer of many hospitals in Ontario. His youngest son teaches law at Conestoga College. Denis has three grandsons.
Denis did his first classification talk in 1976. After graduating as a Mechanical Engineer, he worked for a can company. After two years he was sent to Hamilton. He was moved to Assistant Manager, HR Dept then was transferred to Brampton in 1957. He moved back unto productions then. In 1976 he was made Plant Manager at Dixie Cup Div. In 1979 he went to Sheridan College.
At Sheridan College, the work was hard but enjoyable. He was in administration at the Davis Campus for six years. He spent the last nine years as a Senior Professor in the teaching world. Denis retired in 1999 then worked for another year and has been retired for 18 years.
Denis has been involved in theatre all his life. He has directed more than two dozen productions, six of them musicals. He has always had fun and he has acted in 30 or more productions. He has also done piano playing on and off all his life.
Denis joined Rotary in 1976. He has served on the Board of Directors a couple of times. He enjoyed being President. When he started, there were 85 members, all men. Rotary got smart and opened to women and it’s so much better now as this has changed the atmosphere of the club and he is extremely pleased to see how the club has changed over the years.
