Sequel to my earlier communication on this topic, come March 14 to 21, ten of our Interactors from Central Peel Secondary School, led by their Academic Advisor, Heather McPhail and a parent, will embark on a trip to Colima Mexico for Project Amigo - an Education and Literacy Program.
Education and literacy are powerful keys to enabling a brighter future for the world’s children, who in turn benefit the nations they live in. For nearly three decades, Project Amigo has helped rural children in Mexico continue their formal schooling up to and including college level, by providing educational scholarships, material support, enrichment activities and preventive and remedial health care to disadvantaged children and youth in Colima State.
So far, Project Amigo has helped to produce 329 Primary students, 8 Vocational students, 58 Sr. Hi students, 61 Jr. Hi students, 36 University students (95.53% students that started university have graduated), 74 University graduates (91.54 % graduates working in their field) and 2 Masters degree graduates.
As part of material support for these children, our Interactors plan to donate cell phones and tablets to them. I am currently collecting these, and I hope that we will all take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of this laudable program.
