Presidential changeover
District Governor Dave Patterson spoke briefly about the good works of our club and the many highlights Rotary International has accomplished this past year. He spoke about how at this time of year, an large international organization such as Rotary is transferring the reins of power, i.e. Presidential handover, and although there are many challenges at such a time, Rotary remains strong because of it. District Governor Patterson thanked all Brampton Rotary Clubs for their strong leadership and continued good works.
President Shelia spoke about her year as President of the Rotary Club of Brampton. She remark about the many challenges' facing our club, but with such a strong and dedicated board of directors, the club manage to deal with the ongoing challenges.
Shelia also commented on how much fun she had has President. She was able to meet many Rotarians during her visit to Denmark, India and Chile. While traveling, President Shelia found the same mind set was common amongst all Rotarians, that we are passionate about making a difference.
President Shelia was proud of the many accomplishments during her year. Some of these include:
10 new members, 2 returning members, boat cruise with 39 international exchange students, a donation to the Rose Theater and arts group, a meeting with Rotary International President Bill.., she took time to recognize, the host families, the great works accomplished by the Children's Charity committee such as the Annual Skate A Thon, children Christmas party, Santa Claus parade, Rib n Roll, a Rotary day of giving, a $25,000 donation to Sheridan College, participation in the Dreams take Flight, and the delivery of wheelchairs to Mexico.
President Sheila then made special recognition to some people who helped her throughout her year. That included: - Len Mikulich, who served 19 of 20 years as club Secretary, only missing that one year to become Club President. The only other person to hold that office of distinction was Past President Jerome Dawson.
- A special thank you to Rotarian Bino Dalli and his staff for the fine food and the special attention to her needs,
- Rotarians John Sanderson, Peter Ward, Jim Inglis, Gerry Atkinson and Francis for introducing proposing new members to our club
- A most of all to her husband Kirk for his understanding and support during her tenure as club President.
President Steve Rhodes called upon District Governor Dave Patterson to present the Past President pin to Shelia Winsor. President Rhodes made a toast to outgoing President Shelia and presented her with a gift.
President Steve Rhodes called upon his new board of directors to stand and be recognized for the year 2007 - 08 and introduce this year's rotary theme: "Rotary Shares".
