Congratulations to our Paul Harris award recipients - Vanora Spreen and Michael Sharpe.

Faithful to tradition, we were able to keep secret the fact that Michael Sharpe and Vanora Spreen would be honoured as Paul Harris Fellows at a dinner on May 8th in Brampton. It was easy to keep the secret from Vanora as she was attending anyway as a member of the Club. It was more difficult for Michael, a non-Rotarian, as he had to be enticed to the meeting under false pretences. He believed he was there to help with another presentation.

Rotarians Norm Bindon and Brad Goodison spoke of Michael’s long service as the ‘Voice of Rib&Roll’. Michael was also very involved with Tour for Kids for many years. During Michael’s acceptance we learned that his long hair is grown and periodically cut to help provide wigs for children following chemotherapy. Michael expressed great surprise, appreciation and humbleness at receiving the Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

The over one hundred attendees heard Rotarian Warren Rasberry speak of Vanora Spreen’s continual service to Rotary and to our club. She is our immediate Past President and can be seen working at every service event and fund raiser for our club. At the Rotary District level she is currently Assistant Governor with responsibility for the Brampton cluster of five Rotary Clubs. She has also been a driving force behind the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for young adults.

The two awards were well deserved and humbly received.
