Our Newest Canadian

In September 1995 Alice Chua arrived at the Rotary Club of Brampton from Cotobato City in the Philippines. Eleven years later Alice Chua Tjan became our newest Canadian.
On September 1st, in a ceremony at the Canadian Immigration Centre in Mississauga Alice was sworn in as a Canadian citizen.
When Alice Chua arrived as our Exchange Student her intention was to complete her year of Rotary Exchange and return to the Philippines. But shortly after returning home Alice was again in Canada as a student at Humber College. After Humber she attended Ryerson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in Hospitality and Tourism management. At Ryerson she met and later married James Tjan.
Alice has remained close to our Club for eleven years. She is frequently seen painting faces at the Children's Charities Christmas Party. She has worked at Thunder Run, at our Silent Auctions, at the Easter Seals Halloween Party and at the Santa Claus Parade.
As an Exchange Student Alice was hosted by the families of Norm and Elizabeth Bindon and Peter and Linda Young, as well as Friends of Rotary the Calixto family and the Winter family.
Alice is a Guest Services Supervisor at the Toronto Airport Holiday Inn. Alice and James live in Mississauga.
