Najma Shamsi has been associated with the Citizens Foundation since 2005, as a Director of the Board and President of the Executive Committee. She has been involved with volunteer and charity work in education for the past 25 years. As the wife of a Rotarian and the Past President of the Inner Wheel clubs, both in Karachi and Islamabad, she helped in setting up and running multiple literacy centers for street children . She also worked on the board of ABSA, a charitable school for hearing impaired children
THE CITIZENS FOUNDATION is a professionally managed, not for profit organization, which was established in Pakistan in 1995, by a group of concerned citizens. The mission of the organization is to promote mass scale quality education at the primary and secondary levels in an environment that encourages intellectual, moral and spiritual growth. It believes in universal moral values and that all children have the potential to achieve. To date, it has established 455 schools in which over 55,000 children are enrolled. Female enrollment is of primary importance.

She holds degrees in English Language and Literature, and in Political Science. She has been working in education since 1979. Having taught both English and Urdu at high school level in her country of origin Pakistan, she established, owned and ran a private school in Karachi , which offered education from pre-school to high school. Upon moving to Islamabad, she was appointed the Regional Director for a private school network. She has called Canada her home since 1998. She currently owns and operate a an Oxford Learning Centre location, Oxford Learning Centre is Canada's leading supplemental education provider.
