On Book - One Brampton

Jerome Dawson introduced Adele Kostiak, CEO of the Brampton Library who
spoke eloquently on the One Book – One Brampton initiative. The One
Book One City campaigns connect entire communities through the
promotion of literacy. This is accomplished by encouraging the reading
and the ensuing discussion of a commonly shared book.
The One Book One City program was originally launched in 1998 by the Washington Center for the Book. Since then, it has taken place in Canada in Vancouver, Kitchener-Waterloo, Burlington, Hamilton and Toronto, and across the United States, with great success.
The One Book One Brampton Campaign is officially starting with the naming of the book, "Life of Pi". Ongoing activities will occur between then and the wrap-up scheduled for Family Day in February 2010.
This initiative is anticipated to reach over 150,000 citizens and 15,000 businesses in Brampton. Arts groups, citizens groups, not-for-profit organizations, cultural groups, the Brampton Civic Hospital and public and private school systems, including Sheridan College, will be mobilized to make this a community-wide celebration of the "Journeys" theme highlighting the inclusiveness aspects of literacy.
