Jeremiah Brown – Olympian
Our speaker is one of few Olympians ever to go from complete beginner to Olympic medalist in less than four years. He is the author of the national bestselling book The 4-Year Olympian which recounts his journey and the lessons learned along the way. After nearly being incarcerated at age 17 and becoming a father at 19, Jeremiah manages to grow into a responsible young adult. But while juggling the demands of a long-term relationship, fatherhood, mortgage payments and a nine-to-five banking career, he felt something was missing. A new goal captured his imagination: What would it take to become an Olympian?
Jeremiah learned some valuable lessons along the way, if you are going to do something that is going to stretch you, you must have a good coach on your side. You have to be resilient, when life knocks you flat on the back, you have to recover quickly from difficult conditions, rowing is repetitive. You have to be persistent and take small steps forward.
Jeremiah talked about continuity in rowing and continuity in Rotary. Rotary is changing lives, we should continue to do what we do, row together for success.
Jeremiah Brown won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics as part of the men’s eights for Canada. Congratulations Jeremiah!
