Twenty three Rotarians in attendance
We sang the national anthem of Nigeria after the Canadian National anthem in recognition of our newest Rotary member.
Peter Ward will send out a list of those who are confirmed to attend the Opal Gala Thursday October 11th. . Currently we have 50 members registered.
Monday Oct. 8th meeting was cancelled due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Monday October 15th we will travel to the Poor Boys Luncheon at Century Gardens.
Quitterie, our exchange student from France spoke about her last two weeks which included a trip to Toronto to attend We Day, compliments of John Digby.
She attended two fall fairs with her exchange student friends, and heard an orchestra perform at U of T thanks to Betty Jo Parent, RC of Mississauga West.
John Lomax spoke about HIP and the Orange Shirt Day campaign which happens annually September 30th, the day First Nations typically started school at Residential Schools.
John relegated HIP funds to purchase orange shirts for the Interact students.
Willard reported that the Coin Show generated $3,300, which is a lower profit than in previous shows, but our show conflicted with another two day show in Toronto.
The next RC of Brampton Coin Show is December 2nd.
There was a cheque presentation to the Santa Claus parade committee in recognition of the RC of Brampton being the principal sponsor of the Santa Claus parade for the next five years, a sponsorship tradition which began in 1986.
Our Rotary Minute featured Dittie Vogel who spoke about her 18 year membership with the RC of Brampton. She said the best part of Rotary is what she learned through the years and the travels she has taken which includes trips to Switzerland Tanzania and Romania.
John Lomax informed us about the changes at St. Leonard since Rick Brown retired. Rotary used to be represented on the Board of Directors but is no longer part of this organization.
Willard has been a guest speaker at the RC of Heart Lake 4 times. He and Sandra are heading to Nova Scotia for his third trip this year.
