Octoberfest raises $9,000
John Mullen and Dittie Voegle thanked everyone involved in the successful Oktoberfest dance, including the participants, the helpers and those who contributed prizes to the silent auction. Close to $9,000 was raised for the children's committee and a good time was had by the 180 participants who danced to the classic rock strains and polka renditions of the live band, Hi Tide.
Traditional German dancing was performed by the dance group STV Weiss Blau Bayern of the German Canadian Club Hansa of Brampton. Audience participants, including Dittie and John, got to dance along with this German dance troupe and show off their authentic volk costumes and moves.
The Spreen family took away top honors again this year when their team won the beer drinking contest. Last year Ken's wife ,Vanora, was on the winning side. This year his daughter's team triumphed, no doubt following Ken's fine example.
